A desert in Bardenas Reales and an oasis of vegetables in Tudela

Do you want to see one of the most impossible landscapes in Navarre? Then Bardenas Reales is where you want to go. A Natural Park and Biosphere Reserve known for the magnetism of its scenery. An arid environment of eroded formations — the best known of which is Cabezo de Castildetierra, which has appeared in films, commercials and music videos — whose stark grandeur is quite overwhelming.

There are many ways to visit this spot; you can drive yourself or take one of the hiking trails or mountain-bike routes. You can also get in touch with local firms to see it on horseback, on a Segway or from a 4x4

  • Torre Monreal in Tudela

Tudela, the capital of the Ribera

Not far from Bardenas Reales is Tudela, the second most important city in Navarre and one of the most important cities of Islamic origin in Spain. Stroll through its mediaeval streets and discover the wonderful Cathedral of Santa María, the quaint Plaza de los Fueros with its terrace bars, and the city’s convents and palaces, such as those of the Marquis of San Adrián or the Marquis of Huarte.

You’ll also find restaurants worthy of the finest palates. Our tip: don’t snub the capital of vegetables and let the produce from Tudela’s vegetable gardens seduce you through your stomach.

  • Monastery of Fitero

The Monastery and village of Fitero

Another more than recommendable place to visit. A Cistercian gem, unique in Spain, declared a National Monument and perfectly integrated into the village of Fitero. Don’t miss the abbey church, the 13th-century chapter house and the Renaissance cloister.

You can make the most of your visit to the village and take a dramatised night tour or immerse yourself in the thermal waters of the centuries-old Balneario de Fitero spa. And if you want some exercise, there are two really pleasant walks: one to the cross that crowns La Atalaya and the Roscas circuit, each about 8 kilometres long.

  • Exhibition with a vulture in Sendaviva

    And the Sendaviva theme park

And to finish off, this super recommendation for those travelling with kids: the Sendaviva nature park. A different kind of park with exotic animals, farm animals, thrilling rides, other gentler rides and shows like the circus show or birds of prey display that will delight the whole family. And it has its own hostel if you feel like spending the night.

River trails in the Ribera Alta

The Ribera Alta in Navarre is a land of contrasts. In just a few km, you go from the emotion of the semi-desert landscape of Bardenas Reales to enjoying the banks and woodland which line our three major rivers: Ebro, Aragón and Arga.

From the mouth of the River Aragón in Milagro, passing through the copses and along the cliffs of the River Arga to the impressive views of the ever-imposing River Ebro from Soto de los Tetones or Cerro de Santa Bárbara in Tudela.

Here you will find comfortable and very well signposted walks, ideal to explore the local nature and the vegetation and varied fauna associated with fluvial environments.
