Traditional race on digging forks
Are you into rural traditions and customs? The layas or digging forks are agricultural implements that were employed in the last century to turn the land and which are now used in Artajona in a curious competition as part of the fiestas held in honour of its patron saint. The young people from the town and nearby villages, dressed as farm labourers and standing on digging forks, challenge each other in an exciting race through the steep, cobbled streets going up to the medieval complex. If you were thinking about exploring the fortified enclosure of Artajona, then here's a good opportunity to do so.
