La Bajada del Ángel (the Descent of the Angel)

Once again this year, an early-rising angel will fly over Plaza de los Fueros in  Tudela, an age-old tradition which takes place on Resurrection Sunday. A Festival of National Tourist Interest in which an angel, played by a child, descends through the air before reaching the Virgin, whose head is covered with a black veil as a sign of mourning for the death of her Son.

The high point is when the angel reaches Mary and removes her veil, reflecting with this gesture the joy of the resurrection of Christ, crying out at the top of their voice ‘Be glad Mary, for your son has risen from the dead!’
