Fiesta of the Baztan Valley - Baztandarren Biltzarra

The Baztandarren Biltzarra is the great fiesta of fraternity celebrated by the inhabitants of the Baztan Valley in summer. The town of Elizondo serves as the setting for these festivities which are unquestionably the most representative of the valley and which have been held since 1963. During the fiesta, the inhabitants from the 15 towns and villages in the valley, parade the streets of Elizondo in their floats.

Following the parade, the Town hall Square is the stage for the Mutildantza (the men's dance) which is danced to the sound of the Txistu (Basque flute) and the number of Dantzaris (Basque dancers) progressively increases as the tune progresses.

An artisan fair is held in the calle Pedro Axular street with stalls for the display and sale of goods and, to round off the morning, there is a communal lunch in the Plaza del Mercado square. The afternoon entertainment includes the performance of various groups of musicians.
