Company: Club Ciclista Estella
There’s an event in Tierra Estella which no lover of professional cycling will want to miss, the Grand Prix Miguel Induráin, the only classic race held in Navarre, bringing together international teams to face a demanding 200-km course with 3,500 metres of elevation gain.
The race pays tribute to the legendary Navarrese cyclist Miguel Induráin, five-time winner of the Tour de France, and takes place in a spectacular setting. It starts and ends in the town of Estella-Lizarra, a monumental market town which grew thanks to the Way of St James and through which the cyclists pass on several occasions during the event. They also have to tackle the mountain passes of Guiguillano, Lezaun and Riezu, and pass through areas of great historical interest and natural beauty, such as the Alloz reservoir and the monasteries of Irache, with its famous fountain from which you can serve yourself wine, and Irantzu, located in a beautiful part of nature.
Don’t miss the end of the race, because it’s a great spectacle, with hundreds of fans occupying the last metres before the finish line to cheer the competitors on in a truly vibrant atmosphere.
And if you come to see the event, make the most of your time by spending a weekend in Navarre and discover unique places such as the source of the Urederra river, the Sierras de Urbasa and Andia, the charming villages on the Way of St James and hundreds of routes you can cycle. Cycling and heritage await you in Tierra Estella!
