Navarrese Pyrenees (Roncesvalles - Irati - Roncal)
Ruta Senderista
Distance 6.57 km
Difficulty Media
Elevation gain 367.0 m
Route type Circular

The path winds through oak and beech forests, past old watering troughs and a centuries-old oak tree. The Aginaga Cave can be visited if you take care. Along the route, panels on the “Path of the Senses” explain the history of the forest and the karst geology of the area.

The route, which forms a loop with a central figure-eight section, begins in Abaurrea Baja with an information panel. After a short descent, the path veers towards an old mill (now in ruins) and continues along a zigzag trail that alternates between slopes covered with oak trees and pastures, and a lush
beech forest with boxwood at the top.

After a climb, the path narrows and enters the karst area where the Aginaga cave is located. The descent through the forest and pastures offers broad views of Sierra de Berrendi, Sierra de Abodi and the Aezkoa valley. Caution is advised in the upper parts of the cave and during the wild boar hunting season (August-February).
