The Lumbier gorge, a Protected natural reserve, features limestone cliffs and a great diversity of birds, including griffon vultures. This trail offers views of the Sierra de Leyre mountain range and follows the old Irati railway line.

The route begins 1.5 km from Lumbier in the Visitor and information area, which has paid parking. The starting point’s an informative panel in the picnic area. From there, climb to the left through kermes oak thickets and scrubland to the upper section with views of Sierra de Leyre. The trail descends to a quarry track and follows a narrow path with beautiful views of the Irati river, leading to a flat section of the old railway line, now the Irati rail trail.

Carry on until you reach a tunnel at the southern entrance to the gorge (visiting the Devil’s Bridge is not recommended for safety reasons). Following the riverbank, you come to a second tunnel, which leads you back to the starting point. Outside the protected area, wild boar hunts take place between August and February.
