Carmen Etxalar

This route is between Etxalar and the supposed home of “Carmen”, the protagonist of Bizet’s famous opera. Along the route, six interpretive panels
explain Carmen’s era, the local way of life and historical events of the day.

The straight route begins at the Etxalar culture centre and continues along a paved road to the Orizki district. It then alternates between sections of paved
and gravel forest track, surrounded by meadows, a foarest and a trail that allows visitors to enjoy the natural setting.

Among the highlights are Arbia bridge and waterfall, a traditional livestock shed, the old Sarriku bridge, information about life in Etxalar during the period and the ruins of the Errotxe livestock shed.
