A trail that tours the site of the Battle of Valdejunquera, a battle between Christian and Islamic kingdoms in the Middle Ages. The Emir of Córdoba led a military campaign against the Christian kingdoms of Pamplona and León. The Muslim army crossed the Ebro river, followed the Ega river and, after an initial engagement at Dixarra, defeated the Christian troops in the Guesálaz valley.

This circular, figure-eight route begins at the Guesálaz valley sports centre in Muez. Walking parallel to the sports centre, you reach a mediaeval wayside cross where there is an information panel about the Battle of Valdejunquera.

Climbing through some oak woodland to the Monte Irujo viewpoint, you can enjoy stunning panoramic views of the three canyons: Ubagua, Obantzia and Erragoz.

The path continues to a junction with views of Alloz reservoir and Guesálaz valley. You then return to the wayside cross and pass through Muez, with its
mediaeval Church of Santa Eulalia, from the 13th century, and Casa del Conde (the Count’s house).
