Irati

This route in the north of Navarre starts in Burguete and links up roads and tracks to make for a spectacular ride.

Start on the road to Roncesvalles, the gateway to the Way of St James in Navarre and home to an imposing mediaeval collegiate church. From there, take the EuroVelo 3 to the Orbaizeta arms factory, a place steeped in mystery and beauty. Then head for the Irati forest on the concrete track to the Irabia reservoir. Cycle round the reservoir on a spectacular path amidst beech trees to Casas de Irati. From there, take the asphalt up Tapla hill, the highest point on the route, with outstanding panoramic views. Carry on towards Garralda on the road. Shortly before reaching the village, you can enjoy the view from the Ariztokia viewpoint. The last part of the route is an easier ride which takes you back to Burguete, after passing the Roman archaeological area of Zaldua on the way.
