Salt mines Route

Valtierra
Navarre's Ribera (Bardenas)
Ruta Senderista
Distance 3.46 km
Difficulty Media
Elevation gain 141.0 m
Route type Circular

This route follows the ravines of the old Valtierra salt mines to a viewpoint overlooking the Ribera region and Mount Moncayo. Of medium difficulty
and shaped like a racquet, it includes steep, narrow sections with rope handrails and showcases the regeneration of the environment after a major fire in 2022.

The route begins in the upper part of  Valtierra, in a recreational area near the municipal swimming pools with a parking area, where there’s a panel to mark the start. It climbs along the bottom of a narrow ravine, passing a closed underground gallery used for salt extraction, until it reaches a saddle. At the fork, take the right-hand path and descend another ravine with steep sections fitted with handrails that takes you through pine trees.

After passing a small wetland, the path climbs past another open gallery, leading to a ridge and a summit with views of Valtierra, the Ribera region and, on clear days, Mount Moncayo. A short descent joins you up with the outward route to get back to the starting point.
